Obituary

Uno Isaacson, 95, a resident of Ahmeek passed away on Saturday September 19, 2020 at his home.
He was born on June 14, 1925 in Calumet and raised by his mother, Elizabeth Isaacson. He attended the local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1943. After graduation, Uno enlisted with the United States Army at the age of 17. He served with the 10th Mountain Division, where he was awarded his Bronze Star. In 1945, he was honorably discharged, and moved to Detroit where he worked for 1 year before moving back to the Copper Country where he owned and operated Isaacson Citgo on Pine Street for 20 years. After selling Isaacon Citgo, Uno worked as a mechanic for Hue Testavon for several years before he, his wife Agnes and son Neil purchased the Lac La Belle Resort. They operated it for more than 10 years before he went to work for Rowe Moving retiring as a mechanic. Uno then went to help Neil at Sandy Pebbles Golf Course working an array of jobs.
Uno was a fireman for the Calumet Village Fire Department and Lac La Belle Fire Department for several years. He also volunteered at many fundraisers for the Ahmeek Fire Department. He served as a trustee for the Grant Township board as well.
He was an active member with the VFW Post #3900 in Calumet and the Clyde Johnson American Legion Post #230 in Mohawk. He was a familiar face working Thursday night bingo at the legion.
Uno was an avid fisherman in his younger years and had his charter service. He had a passion for machinery. He could fix anything that needed to be fixed.
On August 7, 1948 he was united in marriage to Agnes Stukel.

To the Isaacson Family, I'm sorry for your loss, may you find comfort in your memories of such a great man!!

MS Lady Y.,

Thank you very much for taking the time to send this to me. I will pass it on to my family members. We used to have a cottage down at Little Betsy and I remember him and my dad (Norm Paulson) talking all the time. Also, If we had problems with the boat, Uno was always there to help us out. I have fond memories. R.I.P. Mr Isaacson!

Kind regards,
Uncle Chuck (Chuck Paulson)

When I first came to the Keweenaw Uno was a member of the Grant Township Board. I enjoyed watching him and I think he served his position well. When ever I think oh the 10th Mountain Division I think of Uno. I feel honored to have known him. Dick Powers
