Obituary for Paul J. Baroni

Paul J. Baroni, 64, a resident of Calumet passed away on Wednesday March 10, 2021.
He was born on July 7, 1956 to Paul and Janet (Hella) Baroni. He attended the local schools and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1974. Following high school PJ attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth where he played football. He then went on to Northern Michigan University where he attended the police academy, and graduated in 1977.
He worked for the Calumet Village Police Department in 1977 until 1982 as Police Chief. In 1982, he began working for Laurium Village Police Department, in 1991 he was promoted to Sergeant, and in January of 2005 he was promoted as Police Chief. He retired in 2019. He was the Union Steward from 1984 to 2005.
PJ was a volunteer Fireman with the Calumet Village Fire Department and a member of the UPVFFA from 1976 until he retired from the Fire Dep’t in 2008. He served as President of the UPVFFA in 2003.
PJ worked as an EMT for Mercy Ambulance from 1982 to 1992.
He was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan. He was a season ticket holder and shareholder. A favorite memory was following the team all the way to the Super Bowl XXXI held in New Orleans.
PJ was a lifelong member of the North American Hunting Club, Wisconsin Professional Police Association, the Upper Peninsula Law Enforcement Association, and the International Association Chiefs of Police.
On July 1, 2006, he was united in marriage to Sandra Blake in Copper Harbor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Janet Baroni, mother-in-law, Sherrill Longfield and stepson, Jeff Percifield.
He is survived by his wife Sandra, and his brother Tim (Nancy) Baroni of Lake Medora
His daughters: Brandi (Nate) Kowalinski and grandson Ethan of West Allis, WI, and Mary Baroni of Calumet, His stepson Glenn (Jamie) Percifield Jr and granddaughter Sylvia of East Troy, WI, step daughter-in-law Dana Percifield and grandsons Brody and Lucas of West Allis, WI.
Stepsons: Charlie (Laura) Zerbst and grandchildren, Caitlyn, Sophia, Trevor, and Madilyn and Keith Zerbst Jr.
Stepdaughters: Rachael (Jerry) Thomas and granddaughters, Gemma and Jade, and Amanda Zerbst and grandson Nathan.
Father-in-law Edward (Evelyn) Blake of Rockford, MI, Sisters-in-law: Wendy (Charles), Ginger (Steve),
Sue (Tim), Katy (Ray), and brother-in-law Matt (Lisa).
Along with numerous other family members and lifelong friends. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Thomas McConnon for the care and companionship he provided PJ.A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday March 16, 2021 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet with Father Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate. A memorial gathering will be held at the Siskiwit Reception Hall, 26070 Pine St. Calumet, MI 49913 on Monday March 15, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. All COVID-19 precautions must be followed.
