Obituary for John William Aho

Print
John W. Aho, 78, a resident of Calumet passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Lighthouse of Hancock, after a courageous battle of Lung Cancer.

He was born on August 26, 1940, in Detroit, to Howard and Eleanor (Larson) Aho.

John completed courses to complete his GED in the 1960’s. He then enlisted in the United States Army, serving 2 years of active duty, and 2 years in the US Army Reserves. He was then honorably discharged.

On November 19, 1966 he married Donna Isaacson. Together they celebrated 52 years of marriage.

John worked as a carpenter all his life, and loved his work. He worked over 30 years at McGann Building Supply in Hancock, and at Armstrong-Thielman Lumber Company in Calumet. He worked at Waarala Hardware in Calumet during his youth.

He was an avid baseball fan, mainly the Detroit Tigers. He had a very sharp mind and loved doing the difficult crossword puzzles in the Herald Tribune Crossword Book. He loved watching old movies and playing Cribbage with his friends.

He enjoyed life to the fullest, and was a happy person. He was a very spiritual person all his life. He loved the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and always said he would never live anywhere else.

Most of all, John loved being with his family. He was loved dearly and will be missed. John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, Son, Aaron (Cindy) Aho, Two grandsons, Christopher Aho and Andrew Aho, one step grandson, Josh LaCasse. His black lab, Blu, who was always extra gentile around John when he was sick.

Also survived are his sisters, Claire Kolemainen, Karen (Robert) Sirvio, Phyllis Hereford, a special niece, Denise (Greg) Maronen, and many other nieces, and nephews.

Also survived are his sister in laws, Tonia (John) Larson, Connie Isaacson, and his brother in law, Wayne (Rose) Isaacson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Eleanor Aho, his brother, James Aho, and his special uncle and fellow carpenter, Sulo Aho, a niece, Cathy Sirvio, nephew, Richard Hereford, and his brother in law, James Hereford.

“He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. A new heaven and a new earth” Revelation 21

Per John’s wishes, there will be no funeral service and visitation. He will be laid to rest in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
